808 State are Graham Massey, Andrew Barker, Darren Partington. They formed back in 1988 in "Eastern Bloc", a DJ record shop in Manchester England run by Martin Price.
EX:EL was the fifth album released by 808 State in May of 1991. It was the second album released in America. It features guest vocalists Bernard Sumner of New Order and Bjork, who at the time was still a member of the Sugarcubes.
Gorgeous is 808 State's most vocal-oriented effort, and features a number of fairly anonymous guest singers. On this album they use an assortment of vintage and contemporary equipment, including old analogue synths and now-quaint drum machines, in their sonic fabric. Something that would be recognizable to anyone who was into House music around the late 80's.
